I took the family to Border's to see Carlyn
Beccia do a reading of her new book (see above). I met her a
SCBWI Conference a couple years ago and we became friends. She did such a great presentation, the kids really got involved. Frankly, she is a marketing machine. She had sheets for the kids to make old
timey Circus posters with themselves as the attraction. The book captures the circus as it traveled from town to town 100 years ago-the entire town
would stop-even school- and everyone would go! It was a big deal! She was full of all sorts of facts. She also had gotten The Big Apple Circus to donate tickets through a drawing. I interviewed her on my inspiration page
here. But I recently went to check out her website or should I say SITES. They are great!
I remember when she was illustrating this book, she was concerned the art was to dark-the
children's certainly didn't think so but I see on her site she has
evil art and
good art. Too funny you should check it out!
