I wanted to sneak around Illustration Friday and peak at everyone's work. Remember is this weeks topic. Anyone involved in the children's book field knows thatthis is the mainstay of their existence "remembering". The title of this piece is actually "lost". I kind of like this boy and his cats. I liked everything about my childhood. Pets, school, reading even bedtime. My mom cooked kind of weird for my tastes but payback is a B%$#@! because my son now thinks I cook weird too. Here is a great commentary of what it is like to write and illustrate for children. Barbara does a nice commentary about carrying "yourself" throughout your work over the years. It really struck me because in today's fashionable and trendy illustration there is an awful lot of angst. I tell Tom that is what I don't like about certain genres of music. Why is it cool to be so unhappy and dark? Why do those of us who are of light and joy draw looks of disdain as if we were naive? I say were are wiser because certainly we have had angst ridden times and have lived through dark things but we CHOOSE to be of light and laughter. So if you are remembering this week, remember the good, the sweet, the joy.
