So I have been having a lot of fun putting my portfolio together. I am working on this piece that I really like and I am not quite sure it’s done. I had so much fun, this is a drawing orignally I had done of a girl slumped asleep in her chair (at the time she was a witch) I got good feed back on her attitude or her gesture so I made her more modern and completed it in collage.
I was thinking about writing a more articles about dreams and passions. I had a friend come over the other day and talk about her career. She just had a baby so it was a natural topic. I thought it was so interesting! This topic never loses its charm on me. I decided that it must be one of my “passions”. I can’t tell you how many women have shared ideas or desires with me and in the next sentence they tell me why they can’t do it, a dream and a death all in one sentence. If they are open and that is a HUGE “if” I really like talking them through the thought process. The “thought process” is the most important part of your dream. If you kill it in your brain it does not have much chance of getting off the table. And believe me, I am a practical girl, I don’t just chase passions around hoping that by some miracle it will all come to pass. But the practical girl in me doesn’t believe in just giving up. You wouldn’t want your children to do that so why would you do it? I like to ask questions. How could you make this idea happen? What resources do you have? Time? A bit of cash tucked away? A particular expertise? I find that if someone answers “no” to just one of those questions then the entire idea is dead in the water. Don’t let this happen! Allow your brain to be “impractical” and envision where you want to go. Then be “practical” and brainstorm and have that lead you into some baby steps that you can start taking right now. These last few sentences are the hard to work through and the most exciting! Stay tuned and we’ll talk through them some more…..
