I was reading these questions to myself today and was rather disappointed with my answers. Here are the questions, see how you do..
Have you ever imagined yourself accomplishing your dreams? Do you keep a vision of victory in front of you? How you most often describe yourself-in terms of past experiences, present limitations or future successes? Do you most often envision yourself winning or losing, succeeding or failing?
These questions were written by a man, hence the whole winning-losing thing but I did have to have a heart to heart with myself because I did have to answer that I do often focus on my limitations and am focused on "maintaining" more than succeeding. Have you packed away your dreams? It is sure easy to do. So today I unpacked a few articles that I had cut out awhile back that featured artists I admired and pinned them to my bulletin board. One is of Mary Granpre, who really got a career making assignment when she was asked to illustrate Harry Potter. Actually she was having a pretty good career before that but I like the idea of getting something that lands in your lap that ends up being incredible! And the other is an old article of Scott Adams of Dilbert fame. You may not know this but my original young career path was to be a syndicated editorial cartoonist. Very hard being funny in a little box. Scott wrote down daily affirmations (actually 15 times a day) that all came true, except the Pulitzer prize affirmation- always thought this was an interesting piece on him and since I thought cartooning might be the only way I might get a Pulitzer prize I tucked it away to keep me inspired. Now the articles are put out in front of me to rekindle dreams, keeping me focused. I so enjoy stuff like this...I figure between the two of them my affirmation should be a combo of both artists, "I will get a career making assignment." 15 times a day? I don't even think I go to the bathroom or eat that many times a day. I' ll let you know how it goes....
Since I am a visual soul, here is a summery napkin I mocked up for a submission to Paper Products Design, love their stuff. Maybe this will be a career maker....ha!
