So Sue, my licensing agent, sent a bio sheet to me for approval with a mission statement on it. Nice to be reminded of what you are doing and why. Of course, I revised it again, ha! Part of it was something goofy I had come up with before like “making life more fun”. I don’t think that is totally me. I would say it is my girlfriend Susan though-she really makes life into lemonade. Literally, she sits on the floor, sets up the slushy ice machine and starts squeezing lemons and with her kids In my head, I think “oh, one more thing to clean up or where are the directions for that machine?”No, sadly I am not fun all the time; I can be a fun girl, but not enough to have it as some personal creed. The word I come back to is JOY. Deep joy that is with you in exuberance and in quite. I desire to keep a joyful heart through everything big life turning points, mundane chores and trials. Always have space for joy. Part of that that fits in to my art is to surround myself with little things that put a smile on my face. A sweet card from a friend stuck on my fridge, a sketch of my (sleeping) puppy on my bulletin board or seeing my son’s blanket left on our reading chair. I like the idea of putting a smile on someone’s face through my art by evoking a sweet memory, sharing a laugh or even jump starting their own creativity. Then I get into that whole “inspiration” thing that I just discovery how much I enjoy. It nice to finally understand a little bit about yourself.
